FAQ: What is “Cast Urethane Parts”?

It always makes people confused about these words even if they have been worked in urethane industry for several years. There are two meanings of “cast urethane parts”:

One always comes up with master pattern pieces, silicon molding and urethane casting process. Master Patterns can be produced by using CNC, 3D printing or even an existing product. The master pattern is used to form a void inside a mold. The mold material can be silicon or PU. There are many kinds of cast urethane applications, such as Urethane Texture Mat, Urethane Grooved Wheels, and PU Tuff Bund

Another meaning of “cast urethane parts” (or called cast thermoset urethane) always comes up in contrast to injection polyurethane parts and extruded polyurethane parts. Cast urethane exists in liquid form that can be casted/poured into a mold, post cured in ovens and secondary machining process can be applied if necessary. Cast thermoset urethanes have better performance in most physical properties than injection or extruded thermoplastics polyurethane. Casting liquid urethane into open cast molds or compression cast molds makes it possible to cast almost any shapes in most cost-effective methods.
