Shore A durometerThe Big World of Polyurethane 2: What is hardness of polyurethane?

The Shore hardness is one of methods used for measuring material properties of elastomers, rubbers and plastics

Hardness is measured by using a instrument called a “durometer.” For testing polyurethane, there are mainly two types of durometers, the “A” scale and the “D” scale. The “A” scale ranges from Shore 0A to 98A while the “D” scale ranges from Shore 45D to 85D. The A type is used to measure low to medium hardness polyurethane, while D type is used to measure harder materials that exceed the upper capacity of the “Shore A” gauge.

Hardness is one of the basic standards that are used to evaluate the capacity of a manufacturer of polyurethane molded products.

Shanghai Pepsen has been developing, researching and manufacturing versatile casting polyurethane molded products for 20 years. We can produce full hardness range polyurethane (Shore 0A to 98A to 85D), from very soft PU get sheet to hardest urethane vertebrae bend restrictor.
