polyether and polyester urethaneWhat is the difference between polyether and polyester urethane?

There are many kinds of polyurethane. They can be separated into two main categories as polyester and polyether polyurethane according to variety of polyol. They have their own advantages and disadvantages, so there is no better one or worse one, only more suitable choice than another based on working environment.

Polyester based Urethanes advantages:

Ø  It is normally used for softer urethane with the hardness ranging from Shore0A-95A

Ø  Better tensile and tear strength

Ø  Excellent wear resistance

Ø  Outstanding oil and chemical resistance

Ø  Better high temperature resistance

Ø  Better bonding strength to metal

Ø  More cost effective

Applications:

l   Bottle labelling and capping for packing industry

l   Zero crush wheel for corrugated industry

l   Printer rollers , feed rollers and applicator rollers

l   Bushings and mounts for vehicle and truck

l   Belt scraper for mining industry

Polyether based Urethanes advantages:

Ø  It is normally used for wider hardness ranging from Shore0A-98A-80D

Ø  More resilient

Ø  Lower heat build-up and better dynamic properties

Ø  Better water resistance

Ø  Better low temperature resistance

Ø  Better weather resistance

Applications:

l   Die spring and punch stripper for car die industry

l   Traffic sign

l   Hydraulic seal ring

l   Offshore and marine parts

l   Hydro cyclone parts

l   Load and drive rollers , wheels

l   Material handling industry

l   Belt ,buffer, gear for power transmission
