Why Use Polyurethane in Mining?

Mining and mineral-processing equipment is exposed to abrasive ore, slurry erosion, impact, vibration and process chemicals. Cast polyurethane can be molded for liners, screen panels, hydrocyclone components, scrapers, rollers and transport wheels. - Wear and erosion resistance: Suitable polyurethane grades can resist abrasive sliding and slurry erosion. Comparative service life must be established for the actual ore, speed, impact and maintenance conditions.

- Impact damping and chemical compatibility: Resilient polyurethane can absorb repeated impact, while formulation determines resistance to water, oils, flotation reagents, acids and alkalis. Verify the exact liquid, concentration, temperature and contact time.

- Lower component mass: Many polyurethane parts are lighter than equivalent metal designs, which can simplify handling and replacement. Installed weight depends on thickness, reinforcement and any metal core.

Q1: How do I compare polyurethane, rubber and manganese steel for mining liners?

A: Polyurethane may be preferred where wet abrasion, slurry erosion, impact damping, lower mass or complex molded geometry matters. Rubber or steel can be better in other duties. Compare the wear mechanism, ore, impact, temperature, chemicals, installation and trial inspection data before changing material.

Q2: How is polyurethane screen-panel service life estimated?
